Salò

Salò is one of the most important and popular towns on the western side of Lake Garda. Salò is located at the end of a nice narrow bay, protected from heights covered with colorful vegetation.

The origins of the town are not clear, but there was already a settlement there during Roman times, known as “Sa-lo-dium”. In the year 1337 it became the main town of Lake Garda’s western side and center of the local council.

Salò is also the birthplace of Gasparo da Salò, one of the early inventors of the violin and other instruments.

It is a very popular destination on the western side of Lago di Garda and its promenade is the longest on the lake. The weekly market takes place on Saturday.
